Q: Recently, there are media reports calling China's responses to prevent and resist the pandemic "deprivation of human rights". How does the Consulate-General respond?
A: The reports of these media outlets are purely distortions of facts and malicious attacks on China's responses to prevent and resist the pandemic. We express our strongest dissatisfaction and firm opposition to those reports.
China's "dynamic zero-COVID" policy and pandemic-prevention regulations are based on science and professional opinions. They are in line with China's actuality and guiding principles of the World Health Organization (WHO), have greatly protected the security of life and health of Chinese and foreign residents living in China, and have become important contributions to the world's effort on persisting the pandemic. China is among the countries that have the lowest per capita death counts due to the pandemic. China's pandemic-prevention measures have achieved maximized prevention and control effects with minimal costs and reduced the pandemic's effect on economical and societal development to the largest extent. These are globally-recognized facts. China's pandemic-prevention efforts and results not only were highly evaluated by the WHO but also are highly approved and upheld by the Chinese people.
Every prevention and control measure would have some cost. Prevention and control measures conducted by some Chinese cities have resulted in some effects on production and living, and these could not be prevented in any country. However, China differs from other countries in that the vast majority of Chinese people have expressed understanding and support for the Chinese government's pandemic-resisting policies and Chinese people have full confidence in successfully overcoming the pandemic.
The concerned media outlets shall strictly adhere to professional ethics and report on China's pandemic prevention and resistance conditions objectively and fairly. We also would like the vast readers to clearly distinguish right from wrong and not be misled by these wrongful opinions of the media.
